A much promoted feature of PR 1.1 on the Nokia N9 was the addition of arrow keys, a button to copy, a button to paste, and so forth. However this feature is quite a bit harder than expected to find. It definitely took me a while to find it, and even then, it's not quite straightforward to access.
You have to enable the Swype keyboard, if you have not already. Go to Settings, Time and Language, Text input. Enable Swype.
To access the Swype keyboard, swipe from the left edge of the keyboard to the right edge, or the other way round.
From within the Swype keyboard, swipe from the Swype symbol (white hand with blue squiggle), to the world icon with your region (in my example below it is EN).
And voila, there is the arrow keys, copy, paste, select all, etc.
Enjoy!

Hi Shaun,
Thanks for making a great website to keep us posted about the device. I did not know where to make a request so thought I will ask you here.
I use my browser too much and all i need is that the browser should be able to handle browsing like Android or iPhone. Is there anyway to change the User Agent of the browser?
I tried Fennec but the Addon "Phony" which does the job is not supported for v10 or v11. So cant use it.
Is there anyway to do this. I really like google pages in android view
thanks in advance
Shaun

Chai, the only option I can think of at this stage is to use Opera Mobile. I've just checked in the settings for it, and there is a User Agent for Android option in there. I'm not too sure if this will work for you or not, but it may be worth a try. Instructions here: http://everythingn9.com/opera-nokia-n9/
Let me know if this works for you. If it doesn't, then I don't think it can be done at this stage.

Fantastic tip Shaun. You did it.
It works like a charm. Pity that I cant keep it in Potrait. But it works great. Maybe you should put up a post on this because there is NOTHING on the web about changing user agent of browser.
Thanks a ton again. I am clicking on a lot of Ads when I read every post of yours.

Thanks for the feedback. Be sure to promote us if we have helped
I am also anxiously awaiting a native version of Opera for the N9, which would add portrait support and proper N9 keyboard support. Last I checked when I enquired with Opera, it was a "couple of weeks" away.

Good question. Two ways that keyboards can be closed on the N9.
The first way is to slide down the keyboard, from top to bottom. However this only works on non-swype keyboards.
The second way works on the swype keyboard as well as normal keyboards. Press in the area above where you see the text that you are typing. For example, in the messaging app, if you have a conversation open, press in the grey area. This has the same effect.
Your question has inspired me to make a "FAQ" section of the site. Keep an eye out for it.

Because of its handy shortcuts to special characters by holding certain keys the swype keyboard seems to be a very nice terminal keyboard, but there are two big issues:
1. I can't find a way to minimize it while in the terminal.
2. The bar showing suggested words takes up too much vertical space, and the terminal does not seem to work with it either. The bottom of the console is hidden so I can't see what I'm typing.
I'm not actually interested in "swyping", the swype keyboard just seems better for normal typing as well. Any idea if it is possible to make it more terminal friendly (or a way to get some other keyboard with the features of the swype keyboard except for the swype functionality)?

i understand your problem completely. im not a fan of swype myself. normally tapping in the area above the keyboard will minimise the keyboard but this doesnt work in the terminal. other than using portrait mode i can only think of is using the terminal arrow keys, or the default copy paste area. hopefully someone will hack a keyboard with arrows. i may even try it.myself….

Hi Shaun,
Does the Swype keyboard work for N9 with PR1.2? When I follow your instructions, I can't see the option for the Swype input method. Instead, I am presented with 4 options:
Active Input method – English UK
installed input methods (10
error correction
and insert with key space
Great site for N9 users.

It is the 34-11 part that indicates you are on PR 1.0. Therefore, you won't be able to access the advanced keyboard functions yet. If you were on PR 1.1, it would be 40.4 or something similar.

Use N9 quicktweak for your N9 background. For music connect the N9 to your computer via mass storage and then drop your music into the music folder.
